Kinderen in Ontwikkeling is a dutch NGO, founded in December
2005. Our aim is to help children in developing countries to learn how to be
selfsupporting and to give them a chance to make their own future better.
When we founded our NGO in December 2005 we started with one single project,
being the orphanage where our founder had worked as a volunteer that summer. It
was our intention to gradually expand our support to several different projects
in the same region. The idea is that in that way we can achieve scale
advantages, create synergy between our different projects and establish a
strong network in the region for the benefit of the children. Also we think
that in this way we can strengthen the social cohesion in the local community.
Therefor in 2007 we expanded with two new projects. In the beginning of 2008
two additional projects came along.
Currently these are the projects we support:
- The Save Our Lives orphanage in the Ashante region, with currently
circa 70 children under their care (in the age of 0 to 20 years old). Most of
them have lost their parents by either HIV/aids or maternal death during
delivery. The orphanage has started in the small home of its founder in
Agroyesum (a tiny small little village deep in the jungle area) but in the
meantime it has been moved to a bigger house in Anwia Nkwanta (a village that
lies closer to the city of Kumasi).

- The Marist Preparatory School in Sabin Akrofrom. This is a school
with classes from Kindergarten untill secundary school. Currently 655 children
from over 24 different villages, highly marked by poverty and the lack of human
and material resources, attend primary school or Junior Secondary School at
this institute.

- The Scott Trade School in Senfi. This is a trade-school where
children in the very poor area around Senfi can learn a trade in order to be
able oto provide for themselves. The school provides nutricion and cooking
lessons, and teaches trades like sewing and hairdressing. With the lessons they
also improve their english (speaking, reading and writing) as well.

- The project Operation Hand in Hand in Nkoranza. This is a community
for disabled children, where they can live and are cared for in the best way
possible. Those who are old enough - and when it meets their abilities and
preferences - work in sheltered workshops where they make beautiful jewelleries
like necklaces and bracelets, of which they are very proud.
- The project CAS (Catholic Action for Streetchildren) in Accra. This
project we discovered during our visit in December 2007. It is a large project
for streetchildren in Ghana's capital Accra, providing care, education and
chances for children living on the street and babies born on the street.
Occasionaly we provide them with a package of baby items like napkins, clothes,
and cuddly toys that we collect.

More details about the support we provide these projects, can be found in
our News page where we provide an uptodate list of
recent sponsor actions and other news.
